SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP

Voices Together and the Worlds Worship Creates

The order of worship for October 17 is HERE.

In-person Worship: Sign-up HERE if you wish to attend in-person this Sunday or any Sunday through December 26. Notes: Please wear your mask. If you forget it, we will have some available. The Zoom option will continue to be offered for the service.

The Zoom link is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83579028885. Or dial 1-301-715-8592, ID 835 7902 8885.

Nursery & Preschoolers’ Time is offered during worship the first Sunday of the month. Those spaces will still be available every Sunday if children need a place to move and play, but a parent/guardian will need to stay with their child when the rooms are not staffed with volunteers.  The next time childcare will be available will be this Sunday, November 7.

Worship bulletin: For our in-person worship, we will be providing a printed order of worship. We are focusing our regular bulletin production time and energy on having the songs and liturgies on slides for folks worshiping remotely via Zoom.  Announcements will continue to be sent out via email.

COVID precautions: Before you come to church, screen your household: any fever? any loss of smell or taste? any close exposure to active COVID19? any illness? If anyone in your household is ill, we ask that you stay home that Sunday.

Mission

A Gathering of Stories for BREAD: It is time for our BREAD listening sessions which will meet by Zoom again this year. The BREAD organization looks to focus its social justice energy around topics that are affecting its members and personal stories are the best way to frame and communicate those concerns to folks working directly to make changes in policy. Questions will focus on what about your neighborhood worries you the most, a specific environmental concern, and one thing in your neighborhood or workplace that is functioning well.  Zoom meeting options:  Thursday, Oct. 14 at 7:00 PM, Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2:00 PM. Mark your calendar! The Zoom link for these meetings: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83579028885. Or dial 1-301-715-8592, ID 835 7902 8885.

Habitat for Humanity. On November 13th, Seth Trance will be helping lead a group of volunteers from our church at a local home being constructed by Habitat for Humanity. The home is located at 1225 East 15th Avenue and a local family is excited to move in this winter!  The volunteer day is from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. At this point, the work required to be completed will be on the interior and masks are required. Youth volunteers can work on-site, but must be at least 16 years old, and must be accompanied by a parent or adult volunteer. If you would like to participate, please email Seth at seth.trance@gmail.com. We are allowed a maximum of 7 people. Christian Education Classes

Adult Christian Education Fall Semester

  • “Defund the Police?”: While calls to abolish police and prisons are centuries old, many of us have only just started hearing them.  Join us as we learn about police abolition through our Mennonite values of rejecting state violence and standing with marginalized peoples through a curriculum created by Mennonite Church USA. -Facilitated by Adam Glass. This class will be hybrid. Please sign up HERE so that we know how many people to expect in-person and online. Meets in rm 22.
  • Voices Together: Yearning to sing more hymns after this long hiatus from church? Eager to become more familiar with our new hymnal, Voices Together (VT)? Then join the Sunday school class that will meet this fall in the sanctuary as we explore both new and familiar hymns and worship resources in VT. We will meet in the sanctuary. Please wear masks and socially distance with your household.
  • A Hunger for Healing: For the past several years, this class/group has provided an introduction (for those who needed introduced) and/or guide (for those who had already been introduced) to the spiritual exercises known as the 12 Steps.  We will read from J. Keith Miller’s book A Hunger for Healing; The Twelve Steps as a classic model for Christian spiritual growth, as well as work our way through an accompanying series of DVDs.  What we read and watch provide a starting point for sharing, for discussion, and for (hopefully) growth and healing. No previous experience with the 12 Steps is required. Regular attendance is not required. Anyone is welcome.  This class will meet  in rm 25. We will all be wearing masks and practicing physical distancing.  The class will be facilitated by Steve Rolfe.
